Blood Roses - Jason T. Graves

I was given a copy of this book through good reads as a read for review. I will say that i was pleasantly surprised. I finished the book in about 2 days, I actually brought my iPad on the train to read while I was going to work because I had to know what was going to happen.

Im going to dive into the plot, so if you don't want plot spoilers, stop here.

The story revolves around twins Mari and Madeline who were adopted and never really fit in. They find out that they are vampires. Now what makes this different is that it goes into some scientific explanation with dominant and recessive genes, as to how it could happen.

Their father takes a job continuing his scientific work for a man, Dr. Wilhelm Morgenstern and he takes an interest in the girls. Suddenly the girls are part of a world they can't even imagine. They are suddenly involved in a huge power struggle fighting for their lives.

They end up in Poland fighting the enemy that Wilhelm had long thought dead. Its nice because you can see how some of the characters are being set up to be in the sequel. The girls come out of it okay, but now they are full on super vampires. there is some explaining the existence of “quasi” and “euvampires”  which the girls are. Since they are twins, which is unheard of in this vampire community, they know that there are other things special about the girls.

There were times where the writing jumped around a little bit, and sometimes i had to reread a few sentences to figure out whose POV I was reading, but these things are to be expected with new writers, and they didn't necessarily take away from the novel. There were a lot of characters who weren't fully developed, but Im guessing they will be in future books.

The main characters are interesting, and its easy to developed a vested interest in them right away, and the story moves along at a good pace.

Winning the Legend - by B. Kristen McMichael

I was so excited to read this book. I will say that I could not put it down. We continue on the Journey with Arianna as she leads her clans and full fills the legend of the blue eyes. This book takes us to a tournament for her hand in marriage. Now for a regular 17 year old girl this seems like a very out dated practice, but to win the trust of the night humans, one she must participate in. Needless to say things don't go as planned.

I have been a huge fan of this series since I read the first one when i cam across it on a read for reviews group associated with goodreads.com I really felt that B. Kristen McMichael had a wonderful story to tell, but there were a few small kinks that needed to be worked out as far as pacing and flow in the first one but are now since resolved. I am so excited to continue reading her work and she is one of my favorite new authors to watch!

This series has filled the void in my heart left by the end of the Sookie Stackhouse books. This is another great series to jump into. Not only are the characters compelling you can jump in at any book and it makes sense. To me that is a sign of a great writer, that you dont need to read them in order to understand whats going on. Right now im reading bite club and cant wait to go get more from the library. If you are looking for a new sereis to fall in love with, I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves YA.
